Cheri Ditzig, Community Development Director
Director since 2007, Cheri has
worked diligently to coordinate
social service and program
providers to bring resources to
the Zion and Benton areas.
CREW was recently awarded a
$40,000 grant from The Lake County Community
Foundation to implement a database system through
Community Collaborations, Inc. to address poverty
From 2001 through 2007, Cheri served as CREW’s President
and as acting CEO from 2005-2007. In addition, she has
been the Zion Township Supervisor since May, 2001 where
she is responsible for coordinating social services for the Zion
community. Her main focus is assisting those who have no
other means of overcoming obstacles and finding
employment.
Cheri serves on the Lake County Community Development
Commission. She was also appointed to serve on the State of
Illinois Commission on the Elimination of Poverty. Cheri holds a double Bachelor’s of Science
Degree in Psychology and Human Behavior in Society from the University of
Wisconsin-Parkside and is a certified Life Coach through the Institute for Professional
Enrichment Coaching. Currently, she is working on her Master’s in Nonprofit Business
Administration through North Park University. Cheri enjoys teaching, whether in workshops
or sharing her hobby of raising monarch butterflies.
Maggie Maxwell, Assistant Community Development Director
Maggie Maxwell joined the organization as Assistant Community
Development Director in June 2009. She is currently completing a
Master’s degree in Social Justice in Intercultural Relations from SIT
Graduate Institute in Vermont and has spent the past year focusing
studies on community development and social action. As Assistant
Community Development Director, Maggie has been working closely
with Partners for an Enriched Community to develop a system for
collaboration to meet the needs of the Zion-Benton community. In
addition, she assists with coordination efforts to provide community
members with necessary resources through Pearce Campus Community Resource Center.
Maggie is a graduate of Butler University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and
Science, Technology and Society. She has ten years experience working with not-for-profit
agencies. She is passionate about addressing issues in education and health and volunteers
as a literacy tutor for The Lake County Adult Learning Connection.
